Forgiving others

Pros of Mormonism from the perspective of the
Believer
Ex-believer
The decree from our savior to forgive others encourages us to be better people and to leave behind bitterness and is also source of hope in that it will provide salvation:

14 For, if ye forgive men their trespasses your heavenly Father will also forgive you; 15 But if ye forgive not men their trespasses neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.
The ex-believer probably acknowledges that the decree from our savior to forgive others encourages us to be better people and to leave behind bitterness.

-- N/A --
14 For, if ye forgive men their trespasses your heavenly Father will also forgive you; 15 But if ye forgive not men their trespasses neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

From a ex-believer perspective, it can seem wrong that someone should be forced to forgive people who have done extreme harm to them. Why should a woman forgive the person who raped them or forgive the person who killed their child? To say that you will be damned and barred from heaven for not doing so sounds psychologically traumatizing and even abusive. It can open and add salt to painful memories.
